Lincoln, NH, the heart of the White Mountains.  Sabrina Hamilton is accustomed to keeping a demanding schedule. As a licensed nursing assistant she has often worked 12-hour shifts, sometimes daily for weeks at a time. She’s also no stranger to heavily regimented routines, whether through her experience in a military family or through her past sewing work in a factory setting.

Needless to say, Burgeon Outdoor’s newest stitcher knows how to get things done.

Since her arrival in late March, Hamilton has made a tremendous impact on the Burgeon Outdoor team, playing a key role in the production of Burgeon’s new products for the summer season. As Burgeon has benefitted from Hamilton’s talents and work ethic, Hamilton says she’s appreciated joining such a welcoming and accommodating workplace.

“The military and then working within a factory setting, the atmosphere is definitely a little different,” Hamilton said. “They’re more of a family, open, communicative environment.  They actively solicit feedback from the production team to improve our products and processes. Burgeon is also less 'rigid', I don’t want to say laid back but it’s a more inviting situation.”

Having previously spent three years stitching for Genfoot America in Littleton, N.H., Hamilton learned of Burgeon through her former colleague Danyal Basnar, who she worked with at Genfoot and who joined Burgeon’s stitching team last fall. Hamilton was intrigued by the opportunity but was initially unsure if the arrangement would work out given her full-time work as an LNA at a long-term nursing facility in Franconia.

“Being a full-time LNA I have kind of mom hours, it wasn’t something I was sure Burgeon Outdoor would allow or consider given I can only work certain hours, but I figured I could give it a shot and see what they would have to say,” she said. “I was very fortunate and lucked out that they were accepting of my schedule.”

By investing in and accommodating its newest employee, Burgeon was rewarded with a passionate and productive worker dedicated to growing her craft. Hamilton, a self-described “workaholic,” explained how for her stitching feels more like a hobby than a job, and that through Burgeon she has the chance to enjoy personal growth while helping the young company achieve its goals.

“I’m learning something new, I’m experiencing something new, I’m taking part and being allowed to be a part of something that’s growing,” Hamilton said. “I feel that they’re bringing and giving me great things and I anticipate vice versa as well.”

Not only that, she gets to enjoy being immersed in a White Mountains community that she, her fiancé and their family have long called home.

“Just the beauty of being outdoors, whether it be kayaking, which I love, the scenery and the hiking, and even just outdoor camping,” Hamilton said. “There’s nothing better than home.”
