Sustainability

Sustainability: Our Tuckerman Hardshell is made from deadstock material.  We purchased this first quality material after Polartec® ended its production of NeoShell.  All the material was either a factory overrun or canceled by a customer.  Its carbon impact is drastically lower than if we had ordered new material.  In addition, all Tuckerman products are handsewn and seam taped in New Hampshire.  US domestic production ensures compliance with high environmental standards, a cleaner electrical grid, more efficient transportation infrastructure, as well as reducing the overall distance (and carbon footprint required) to move through a global supply chain.

Made Locally

Made in New Hampshire: The Tuckerman Hardshell is handstitched and seam-taped by the Burgeon production team in Gorham, New Hampshire.

Worker Standards: The Tuckerman Hardshell is handstitched and seam-taped by the Burgeon production team in Gorham, New Hampshire.  Burgeon follows all federal, state, and local laws and regulations that protect our employees.  Burgeon production team members also enjoy flexible working hours, paid time off (vacation, sick, safe), and all ten federal holidays.  Burgeon covers 100% of healthcare premiums for all employees who average 30+ hours per week.  All Burgeon production team members are eligible for a monthly bonus based on our sales.  5% of the sales of the Tuckerman Hardshell go directly into this bonus pool.

New outer layer, purchase a size down

After receiving the back in stock notice from Burgeon, purchased Mens XL to complete the collection with a couple of layers of Burgeon coats I own, which are also XL. Love the coat just had to exchange for a L as it runs larger that their other Mens coats. Exchange was seemless and quick with them and highly recommend the product and this company. My family has purchased quite a few items since discovering Burgeon a few years ago, and 100% satisfied with all of them, both M and W selections.

Great Shell

Fantastic ventilation and a real alpine fortress. I've got a lot of soft shells and full on 800 dollar GoreTex Pro shell from Mountain Hardware, but this is the sweet spot for protection, ventilation, and it isn't "crinkly" like the other shells. You will be impressed with the craftsmanship which is military grade..

Great jacket!

Very pleased! Have skied with it for two weekends now and very happy with it. Using the jacket mostly for resort skiing and resort skinning. Great cut; I am a large but sized up to allow for layers and fits well. Would love two things: a softer material inside the jacket at the top of the center zipper where the fabric contacts my face and a small pass pocket near the wrist. Other than that, great jacket. Best of all it’s American made. Even better still, it’s made in New Hampshire!!

very satisfied

Generally I'll second the prior review on this site: thumbs up and worth it.
I've only used this jacket on one climb, and the conditions were relatively mild, in the low 30s but windy and damp. I was concerned that the medium I bought would not fit over layers but it did though snugly. I had it on over a Washington jacket + feathered friends down vest while pausing over my summit coffee, and I wore it for a while on the descent. Very comfortable, low frills, and nicely cut.
I'm not sure what to say about the pockets. I don't like the bulk generated by stuff in hip pockets, so I tend not to use them. still its hard to get used to their not being there if only for hand warming. there are work arounds , like gloves, or using the zippered pass through. the chest pockets are small but do the job.
I'm happy w the jacket, and knowing its made next door in NH adds to the pleasure

Almost Perfect

I’ve been waiting for this jacket for almost a year and the wait was worth it. The attention to detail, the construction, quality of materials. My jacket’s maiden voyage was a 7 mile hike up Mount Monadnock. Summit was feels like 9° with 50mph winds. With the jacket all zipped up over my Highlander and Flume zip, I was warm and cozy.

And this is where my only complaint comes in. There are no hand pockets. Just the two chest pockets. It’ll take some getting used to. But without them, there’s far less chance of wind and cold getting through the jacket.

Just a solid, well made, versatile jacket. I look forward to wearing it daily.
