Love my 120!

I’ve now got a 90 and a 120. Love them both! The 120 is def noticeably warmer than the 90 with a denser thread count. But it still lets air pass and breathes well so you don’t get tha swamped in feeling. Very reminiscent of knit wool sweater but sofffftttt. It’s like being wrapped in a glowing Vermont Castings woodstove!

Perfect for thru-hikers like myself

Update:
I’ve been hiking the Appalachian Trail and have over 1900 miles so far. This garment has been my favorite thing in my bag. It’s like a comfy sweatshirt at a fraction of the weight. I’m amazed at how well it held up. Hiking the Appalachian Trail is hard on garments. From long days of backpack shoulder straps rubbing against the garment, to hostels not taking care when doing the laundry, this Alpha direct hoodie still looks brand new. I frankly was not expecting it to hold up so well.

As for my original review, see below, the manufacturer has adjusted the hood size to be more appropriate. I can now 100% recommend this product.

Original Review:
The garment is of high quality with nice, even stitching. No frills like extra pockets or drawstrings, which is exactly what I want. Almost perfect with one big flaw.

The problem is the obscenely large hood. I have a big head (just ask my wife), and this hood covers my head, eyes, nose, and my mouth. If you position the hood so you can actually see, it leaves a huge, expansive void of extra fabric around you face and behind your head, which allows cold air to enter, destroying the fabric’s ability to keep your head warm. Hoods should fit close to your body to trap warmth.

Because of this design, I cannot recommend this product. There are better options with appropriately sized hoods.

perfect Wind River Range jumper

I purchased the alpha 120 when I saw expected night time low temps for my Bridger-Wind River 6 day backcountry solo trip. I love my decision. The jumper became softer with each wearing, and the hood stayed perfectly on my head…even when I slept in it. Sleeve length spot on…quality awesome. Worth every cent. I literally wore it every single day. Looking forward to buying an alpha 90 in a bright color !!

Burgeon for the win!

First off, Alpha is incredibly light, keeps warm, and dries fast. Awesome insulating fabric under a shell. I've owned a couple Alpha products from multiple cottage manufactures including the 90 and 120 from Burgeon, and without a doubt Burgeon is the highest quality that I have tried. Best fit, design, and comfort. Hands down.

First 120

I have some pieces of 60-weight Alpha Direct, and this is my first 120-weight. I love the fabric and color. The cut of this hoodie fits me well (6ft, 200 lbs) in the torso. I think there is room for improvement in the hood. It is very large and floppy, and leaves a draft in the front of the neck. Adding a drawstring or closure on the neck would be helpful. Indeed, I am going to try adding some snaps.

Fast shipping, well made, sharp color, cozy, and light as a feather

Oversize hood

Before purchasing I emailed to inquire about hood size based on prior negative review. I was assured that the issue had been addressed and hood modified so I ordered it. The hood basically covered my face so if a modification had actually been implemented it was woefully inadequate. I returned it.

100+ degrees in the Sonoran Desert.

I brought this and another similarly priced cutting edge sun shirt to the Superstition Wilderness to test some choices for company apparel/uniform. When compared with what I brought (which performed wonderfully) and every other sun shirt that I have ever used, the Sun Seeker shines bright and above them all.
I was skeptical of the “waffle knit” texture on the skin under heavy backpack straps, but after 3 days in 100 degree heat my shoulders were perfect.
Tall sizes!!!!
Also, for winter use, I wear merino close to my skin and a sun shirt over that to help wick then evaporate moisture from my the merino. Coming into spring now so I can’t say first hand… but this shirt will likely excel for this purpose!

Great fit. Love the texture. Warm down to only 50 degrees fahrenheit.

Love the cut and the material. I haven't exercised or hiked in it yet, so I haven't experienced the full range of it's technical abilities, but even the slightest breeze is felt through it. I def wear with a long sleeve wool base underneath. I like the way it can compress in a bag.

Warmer than you’d think

An excellent, versatile, lightweight piece of gear that will satisfy anyone that spends time out in the cold.

Versatile Top

This top is just great. I use it on long international flights where they freeze you. It packs small, it’s very light, and you don’t overheat. Outstanding!

Son was jonesing for this, Made in the US made me pull the trigger

My son watches all sorts of YouTube videos on camping (he's a scout) and had to have one of these after I got one for his older brother. This one is a keeper, really solid and for me, made in the USA is a huge plus (even if it is New Hampshire ;-)

Unsuspectingly warm

I now own two of the alpha 120, when I received my first one in the mail, I was concerned because of how thin it was and wasn’t sure it would keep up with the cold temperature on winter hikes in the White Mountains.

I paired it with the bond base layer and the tuckerman outer shell, and I was very much wrong in my assumption . I was very warm and surprised considering how light the material is.

10/10 love this, will be buying another once soon for work since I work outside sometimes in the winter. Burgeon has been great, friendly employees and great service, awesome product!

Only one thing missing

this would have been a perfect piece.. so incredibly warm and fuzzy. Very well-fitted. Except, it could use a sinch cord to tighten the hood. Other than that, stellar design.

PCT 2025 - Favourite Item in my pack

I bought the Alpha 120 while I was on the PCT, just before reaching the High Sierra portion. I was concerned I wouldn't be warm enough, mostly while sleeping.. For the 1900 miles I had it on trail, it is my favourite item, I always look forward to it after a day of hiking 25+ miles. Warm and very snuggly to be in. Breathes great while starting early in the mornings. Sadly, it was stolen 1 month later, after I completed the Mexico to Canada journey, when I got a bite to eat from a weekend hike I went on. Still my favourite item! I'm looking forward to when the Night Sky 120 (S) will be back in stock!

I also appreciate the handwritten note I received when I got my order while on trail!

Perfect for those chilly days

Love what Burgeon has created in the alpha direct 120. Not only is the fit perfect - I'm 5'8" and 51" chest, but the quality of the material is spot on. This is most definitely coming with me on my spring Algonquin canoe trips and will accompany me on the JMT this September.

Received this and immediately went into the rotation

Wore this every day during a week long trip to Yosemite - was the perfect weight for snowshoeing, hiking, driving around the valley, drinking hot chocolate in the Ahwahnee Great Room - instantly my most comfortable and versatile hoodie

New garnet wow!

This alpha pro material is other worldly ! It is so light cozy and warm. It is now one of my essentials when hiking as it weighs nothing and under a shell can go a long way in saving my being when things go south. One question I have is the hood fitting Is it meant to be worn under a hat or helmet as it is quite large, that’s what I was thinking

Nice and warm and soft

Almost Perfect!

Super warm and cozy hoodie, quality is amazing. The hood is a little too big, and wish there was a kangaroo pocket on the front.

Awesome

I have other alpha products from other companies but this was my first 120 layer. It’s awesome, I use it to run in or hike when the temps drop although I enjoy just wearing it everywhere. It breaths super well and does not absorb moisture. I love the simplicity of the design, some companies use elastic and zippers that I feel are unnecessary. Another home run from Burgeon.

Great piece of gear

I have not had this hoodie out in the backcountry yet, but I've tested it by wearing it between a lightweight shell and base layer for ruck walks around town in 10 degree temperatures with high winds. The material performed exactly as advertised. I felt like I was at the perfect temperature the whole time, every time - not warm or cold, just right. I am 6'4" and 215 lbs, with a 46" chest. Burgeon's customer service recommended I size up to the XXL in the unisex sizing and that was the right call.
