I have had this shirt for over a year now, maybe longer. I've used it mainly to lounge around in an old drafty house in the winter time - it keeps you toasty and the outside layer is soft and comfortable and the fleece lining is cozy. I'd never skied in it and for reasons I can't explain, on a whim I threw it in the ski bag on a trip to utah a few weeks ago. We had a 50 degree day at Solitude with full sun and I ended up skiing in a base layer and this top along with a buff and gloves. This quarter zip was amazing - warm enough on the lift, but breathable enough skiing hard. I was comfortable at all times. The thumbholes were useful to prevent any gap between shirt and glove. But the main thing was that it was so light and comfortable and it moves with you and breathes. I was astonished at how well it performed on a day where we hammered it. It will no longer just be a lounge shirt for me!! The experience actually using this for what it was made for prompted me to write this review - I usually don't do reviews. This company is terrific - customer service is outstanding, products are outstanding (I have a highlander and a sunseeker as well and my wife and kids have highlanders). Plus its all made here in the Granite State! Yes, its not the cheapest quarter zip you can buy, but the product is unique, it performs great, its versatile (it looks equally good on the slopes as it does at a restaurant) and its a company worth supporting. Thanks Burgeon! And don't even think about it, just buy this shirt.
I brought this and another similarly priced cutting edge sun shirt to the Superstition Wilderness to test some choices for company apparel/uniform. When compared with what I brought (which performed wonderfully) and every other sun shirt that I have ever used, the Sun Seeker shines bright and above them all.
I was skeptical of the “waffle knit” texture on the skin under heavy backpack straps, but after 3 days in 100 degree heat my shoulders were perfect.
Tall sizes!!!!
Also, for winter use, I wear merino close to my skin and a sun shirt over that to help wick then evaporate moisture from my the merino. Coming into spring now so I can’t say first hand… but this shirt will likely excel for this purpose!
Top notch, craftsmanship, material, design, meticulous. We love Burgeon. Can’t wait to visit again.
Flume Hoodie - Men's
Liked the one I bought for myself so much I bought one for my sister and her husband definitely will be mine more items in the future! I cannot believe how light and how warm these things are it blows my mind!
Love my new sunseeker hoodie! It’s not hot and sticky like some sun shirts. It’s super versatile and seems to adapt to the current temperature. And the orange color is rad! Will be wearing this all summer.
My husband and I love our new alpha -90 hoodies. We are attempting an AT through hike this year and we were looking for the perfect light weight fleece to add to our clothing list. The alpha 90 hoodie fits the bill coming in at 4 oz. Pair it with a rain jacket for cooler temperatures and you’re dialed in.
Even better is that this gear is manufactured in NH by a company with actual ethics. They pay their employees and provide benefits. This makes me happy to support them by buying their products.
This has became my most beloved piece of gear this winter and early spring. I usually take on hard hikes that are shorter with a lot of elevation gain at the beginning of the hike. So after climbing 2000 or 3000 feet my base layer is soaking wet because I sweat a lot. Once I start going downhill from the summit or takeoff on the flat ridge line, I begin to cool off quickly and pretty soon I’m freezing. I have thrown on the Alpha 60 or Alpha 90 from Burgeon (depending on the temps that day) and have immediately become comfortable enough to keep going. Even though my base layer is still wet, the sweat begins to wick away from it and through the Alpha product like magic. If it is windy, I just throw on a windbreaker over top and I stay comfortable to keep going on. I did notice that with the three layers, the windbreaker became the wettest piece of clothing I had, which was good. The Alpha product does what it is supposed to do. I like the loose hood of the Burgeon. It allows for flow and is not restricting at all. The hoodie is light as a feather easily packable. If there is a possible chance of cold temps, Burgeon Alpha will be in my pack. I highly recommend buying Burgeon Alpha!!
The fit of this jacket is great. We have this jacket as coaches jacket for Wildcat Ski Team.. It's my fav shell jacket ever. keeps the wind out easy to layer under. Also the hood fits nicely over a helmet for those perfect Wildcat Days. Bonus: Stitched right here in NH!!!
I’ve been trying different US made grid fleeces recently and this one from Burgeon is a solid choice and I’m happy with my purchase. I recently wore it hiking in RMNP as the first test outside of my couch. I had a wool base layer and this hoodie - was about 50-55 degrees at 9k-10k feet and I was perfect the whole 3.8 mile hike. No visible wear on the shoulders after carrying a heavy pack for 4 hours (carrying essentials for myself and the kids). The fleece is soft and comfy, love the navy color. I enjoy the snap at the neck for a looser fit when I’m not wearing the hood. The drawstrings could be a higher quality material, but they’re lightweight and work just fine. I’m 5’11 and 210, the large fits nicely but fleece is a regular cut (not relaxed) and the fleece isn’t super stretchy. But with a single layer mine fit great - keep that in mind if you prefer a more relaxed fit or want multiple layers underneath. This fleece will definitely be a regular in my hiking, camping, and snowboarding rotation.
Such a warm and comfy coat
My wife was due for a new fleece, she loves it states it’s very warm. Additionally, it’s very well made no loose threads no blemishes, etc..
Firstly, at 5’9” and 136lbs, a men’s Small fits super well. I might appreciate just half an inch more of arm length, with no changes to any other dimensions. I would also welcome a very light hood cinching feature which might be as simple as an adjustable drawstring. I recently used this during 16 days of section hiking in California. I really am amazed at how warm this is at its 4oz weight. It’s quickly become one of my favorite and most useful pieces in my lightweight long distance hiking kit. The 90 weight is perfect on its own under a rain shell for summer nights and mornings, and I feel confident that simply adding a puffy vest to that system would be plentifully warm for shoulder season temps. Thanks Nick and team! You’re truly making something great and delivering that in a way that feels super good. Best feelings, you guys.
This is so warm and soft. Bought the yellow and light blue. Both colors as pictured and beautiful. Received many compliments. Great as a warm layer for skiing or just by itself on a chilly day. Definitely recommend!
These are bombproof! Unbelievable attention to detail. Very pleased with every Burgeon item I’ve purchased.
